This business days calculator, sometimes called a working days calculator, does two things: it adds a number of business days to a date, and it counts the business days between two dates. It skips Saturdays, Sundays and the weekdays on which the Federal Reserve Banks are closed, which is the calendar that ACH payments, direct deposits and Fedwire transfers run on.

How the calculator counts
A business day here is a Monday to Friday on which the Federal Reserve Banks are open. The holiday dates come from the Federal Reserve’s published holiday schedule for 2026 to 2030 and match the Federal Reserve Financial Services schedule. Dates for 2031 and 2032 are calculated from the statutory holiday rules and the Fed’s weekend rule, because the Federal Reserve has not published them yet. The same rules are applied to dates before 2026 and after 2032, so those results are calculated too and do not include one-off closures.
Three rules decide the result:
- The start date is not counted. “5 business days after Monday” starts counting on Tuesday.
- “Between” counts the days after the first date, through the second date. The business days between Friday, October 23, 2026 and Friday, October 30, 2026 are October 26 to 30: five days. To count a whole month, enter the last day of the previous month as the first date.
- A Friday before a Saturday holiday counts as a business day. When a holiday falls on a Saturday, the Reserve Banks stay open on the Friday before. Only the Board of Governors in Washington closes. Payments settle that Friday as on any other weekday.
The third rule is where this business day calculator differs from tools built on the federal government’s calendar. Juneteenth 2027 falls on Saturday, June 19. Federal offices are closed on Friday, June 18, 2027, as the Office of Personnel Management schedule shows, but the Reserve Banks are open. So 5 business days after Tuesday, June 15, 2027 is Tuesday, June 22 here. A calculator that skips June 18 returns Wednesday, June 23.
A holiday that falls on a Sunday works the same way in both calendars: the Reserve Banks and federal offices close on the Monday after, for example on Monday, July 5, 2027.
Worked examples
These are checked by hand against the Federal Reserve holiday dates.
10 business days after Friday, December 18, 2026. Count December 21, 22, 23 and 24 (four days). Friday, December 25 is Christmas Day, a closure. Count December 28, 29, 30 and 31 (eight days). Friday, January 1, 2027 is New Year’s Day, another closure. Monday, January 4 is day nine and Tuesday, January 5, 2027 is day ten.
Business days in November 2026. November 2026 has 21 weekdays. Two of them are Federal Reserve holidays: Veterans Day on Wednesday, November 11 and Thanksgiving Day on Thursday, November 26. That leaves 19 business days. In the calculator, enter October 31, 2026 (or November 1, a Sunday) as the first date and November 30 as the second. Friday, November 27, the day after Thanksgiving, is a business day because it is not a Federal Reserve holiday.
3 business days after Tuesday, June 30, 2026. July 1, July 2 and Friday, July 3, 2026. Independence Day falls on Saturday, July 4, so the Reserve Banks are open on July 3. On the federal government’s calendar the answer would be Monday, July 6.
When your answer can differ
The calculator follows the Federal Reserve calendar. A count that matters for money or a deadline can come out differently for these reasons:
- Cut-off times. A payment or deposit made after your bank’s daily cut-off is usually treated as received on the next business day. FedACH settles next-day payments at 8:30 a.m. ET, according to the FedACH processing schedule, and the Fedwire Funds Service takes customer transfers until 6:45 p.m. ET. Banks set their own, earlier cut-offs.
- State holidays. Some states observe extra holidays for state offices and courts, and a bank may close a branch for one of them. The calculator does not include state holidays.
- Contract and legal definitions. A loan agreement, lease or court rule can define “business day” in its own way, for example by federal holidays or by a list of days. The definition in the document wins.
- Deadlines tied to the federal government. For OPM-related deadlines, federal pay and other federal-office matters, the Friday before a Saturday holiday is a day off. Skip that Friday by hand, or use the federal government’s calendar instead.
- Shipping and retail. “Ships in 3 business days” follows the seller’s or carrier’s calendar, which may include or skip different days.

Business days per year
The number of business days changes from year to year, because years have 260 or 261 weekdays (262 in some leap years) and a different number of holidays land on a weekend. 2026 has 251 business days and 2027 has 252, by the Federal Reserve calendar. The bank holidays by year page compares 2026 to 2032, and the year pages for 2026, 2027 and 2028 show business days per month.
Frequently asked questions
How do you count 5 business days?
Start on the day after your start date and count only weekdays that are not Federal Reserve holidays. From Monday, November 23, 2026, the five business days are November 24, November 25, November 27, November 30 and December 1, so the fifth is Tuesday, December 1. Thanksgiving Day on November 26 is skipped.
How do I count business days back from a deadline?
The calculator counts forward, so test a candidate start date. If a payment must be sent 2 business days before Monday, December 28, 2026, enter Wednesday, December 23 and 2 days: the result is December 28, because Christmas Day and the weekend are skipped. Thursday, December 24 is 1 business day before. Your bank’s or payroll provider’s cut-off on that day still applies.
How do I count business days on a paper calendar?
Cross out Saturdays, Sundays and the Federal Reserve holidays for that year, then count the remaining days after your start date. The Federal Reserve holiday rules explain which day closes when a holiday falls on a weekend.
How many weeks are 60 business days?
Without holidays, 60 business days are 12 weeks, because a week has five business days. Each weekday holiday in the period adds one calendar day, so the real span is usually a little longer than 12 weeks. Enter the start date in the calculator to get the exact end date.
