US bank holidays by year follow the same 11 Federal Reserve holidays, but the weekdays on which the Reserve Banks close change from year to year. A holiday on a Sunday closes the Reserve Banks on the Monday after; a holiday on a Saturday does not close them at all, because they stay open on the Friday before.

Published and calculated years
The dates for 2026 to 2030 are published by the Federal Reserve, in its holiday schedule and the Federal Reserve Financial Services schedule. The dates for 2031 and 2032 are calculated by us from the holiday law (5 U.S.C. 6103) and the Federal Reserve’s weekend rule.
Why the number of business days changes
A business day here is a Monday to Friday on which the Reserve Banks are open. 2026 has 251 business days, 2027 has 252 and 2028 has 251. The count depends on two things: how many weekdays the year has, and how many holidays land on a Saturday and close no weekday at all. 2027 has 261 weekdays and nine weekday closures, because Juneteenth and Christmas Day fall on a Saturday. 2028 also has nine closures (New Year’s Day and Veterans Day fall on a Saturday) but only 260 weekdays. By the same method, 2029 and 2030 have 250 each, and the calculated years 2031 and 2032 have 250 and 253.
The federal government counts differently: it closes federal offices on the Friday before a Saturday holiday. The Federal Reserve holidays page explains the two rules.
